Bal Mandir Voluntourism
Two years ago we contacted Bal Mandir because we knew they were Nepal’s largest orphanage. We asked them to help us train staff at another children’s home which was struggling to find good staff. Bal Mandir did help us and they also explained to us that they also need financial support. Together we discussed how we could improve the financial income for Bal Mandir, and the idea we agreed on has become this project we are talking about today. Dharmik Australia approached Rotary Australia to help with this project and they have agreed. We are now getting final approval from Rotary Australia and hope to commence this project in 2010. The Bal Mandir Project is to upgrade existing buildings to accommodate fee paying volunteer tourists in order to provide an ongoing income stream for Bal Mandir. Here is a story about the home. http://www.nepalnews.com/archive/2008/others/feature/may/news_feature01.php |
