Below are the Nepal Government Minimum requirements for a Children's Home
There should be minimum area of 30 square ft per child (girl/boy) in a room. (2.8 m2)
- There should be maximum 2 stored bunk bed and only one child can sleep in a bed but there is different rule for the children under 6 years.
- If possible there should be different building for girls and boys for the older children who are above 10 years if not there should be at least separate flat for them.
- Minimum facility for 10 children and the staff to be provided are-
-2 Toilets,
-2 Bathrooms,
-1 kitchen/store room
-1 Dinning hall,
-1 Study room,
-1 consultancy/first aid room,
-1 waiting and meeting room
Depending on the number of the children the above facility should be increased.
- There should be separate toilet and bathroom for the girl child and boy child.
- Depending on the number of the children there should be play ground and playing instrument in the home.
- Home and children clothes should be clean and hygienic.
- Depending on the season one child should get at least 3 pair of clothes,2 pair of shoes and 4 pair of shocks.
- Homes should provide adequate safe and pure drinking water for the children.
- Safe environment and first aid facility should be provided by the home.
- There should be well ventilated rooms and special access to physical environment for the special children.
