Dharmik Australia Incorporated is established to raise money to fund overseas aid projects in Nepal. We are seeking approved organisation status through AUSAID for the OAGDS (Overseas Aid Gift Deduction Scheme) and we are also seeking to establish a developing country relief fund through the ATO. We are calling for people interested in becoming members of the Dharmik Australia. People attracted to this association are going to be interested in helping the people of Nepal, of good general character, trustworthy, tolerant, loyal and honest. We know lots of people like this and consider ourselves very lucky. In September 2007 we opened an office in Kathmandu near the tourist Thamel area, and we employed a Nepali coordinator to act on our behalf throughout the year and monitor our projects. The use of the office has been donated by Narayan Shrestha. In October 2007 we ran the Buddist Masters art exhibition in SYdney and raised over $2000 after expenses. We have fully paid the Nepalese artists the wholesale price for the art and we still have a lot of exquisite Thanka art for sale - please contact us. Every new dollar earned on future sales of these remainder items is 100% for the Nepal programs. In December some special people came forward to help us; First Verena, a talented music therapist, next Nicia, a level headed clear thinker with well developed business skills, then Julie, a senior administrator with direct experience in managing programs for disadvantaged children and writing government proposals, finally Trish and Donna who are fabulous organisers with both accounting and general business experience. We met for dinner at the Nepalese Kitchen in Sydney, and we have agreed to start a Nepali language class together. We have decided to focus initially on getting 60 Sponsors - we have 9 now, and many likely candidates who are waiting for us to get all the paper work together for them.
Right now we need...
- financial support through donations.
- ongoing support which allows us to make ongoing commitments in Nepal.
- sponsors for the 60 children we currently aim to support at $1 per day to give them a hand up not a hand out.
- new members to compliment the association and bring new ideas.
- people good at writing government submissions.
- fund raising ideas and activities.
- a financial controller to keep track of our spending in Nepal.
- a member/donar coordinator to keep the information flows going.
